Melstarr Aviations Learning Academy

frequently asked questions

We complete the 200-hour flying syllabus in seven to eight months, subject to weather and to your own rate of progression. Ground school runs before and alongside it. The difference comes from aircraft availability and uncongested airspace, which together remove most of the waiting that stretches training elsewhere.
No. Two hundred hours over seven months is about twenty-eight hours a month, which is six or seven sorties a week for a cadet who is available and current. That is an ordinary training rate. What is unusual in India is being able to sustain it, and that comes from the airfield and the fleet rather than from shortening anything.
Then you take longer. Our syllabus is competency-based, so you progress when you can demonstrate the standard. If a competency needs more sorties, you get them, and we tell you why rather than quietly signing you through.
You are assessed on demonstrated behaviours rather than only on hours logged. Every sortie is debriefed against defined competencies and each phase closes with a competency check. It is the same language airline selection uses.
Yes. Multi-engine training, night flying and landing charges at other bases during cross-country training are all covered in the programme fee.
Kurnool Airport, Andhra Pradesh. Ground school, flying, operations and maintenance are all on the same site.
Yes. You need Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level, and if you did not take them you can complete both through the National Institute of Open Schooling. A great many working Indian pilots took exactly that route. Our admissions team will walk you through it.
17 at commencement of training. A Student Pilot Licence can be obtained from 16 and a Commercial Pilot Licence is issued from 18.
You need a DGCA Class 2 medical to begin and a Class 1 before your licence is issued. Get the Class 2 before you pay any academy a substantial amount, including us.
No. The CPL programme is ab-initio and assumes you have never flown.
We look for aptitude, English proficiency and a realistic understanding of the career.

It is a fair question and it deserves a direct answer. A new academy has no track record and that is a real disadvantage. It also has no ageing fleet, no accumulated habits and no legacy syllabus, and it can be designed from the start around how aviation trains now. Judge us on specifics: the aircraft, the airfield, the syllabus, the people, and the fact that we publish our exclusions and our construction progress rather than only our best photographs
Yes, and you should. Ideally on an ordinary working day rather than an open day.
No, and be cautious of any academy that implies otherwise. No flying school in India can guarantee an airline seat. What we commit to is specific preparation for airline selection and an honest reading of the market throughout your training.
Most cadets pursue a type rating and then airline selection. A type rating is a separate and substantial cost that no CPL fee anywhere includes, and we would rather you knew that at the start than at the end.
